Between 80-100 people from across the peninsula gathered Friday evening to celebrate “the end of prohibition” on marijuana.

“I like how everything’s got the roaring 20’s theme going, they look great all dressed up… It’s unprecedented to say the least and it is everything I’d hoped it would be with good vibes, good people, good food… I think this is an important step forward… So it’s actually just a nice way to not be meeting at a borough meeting and fighting and not be trying to sign petitions, that we’re just sitting and enjoying it and enjoying the fact that we can go outside and smoke marijuana if we choose.”

 

Robyn Sullens attended the event at Kenai Catering and said there were individuals from all age groups and walks of life there to enjoy the activities.

Sullens: “There’s a lot of home cooked foods and cakes and goodies, no alcohol at the event and so guests were asked to not drink beforehand and so there was no drinking there. There were a lot of cream sodas and root beer and water bottles laying around and there was a smoking section outside where folks could go out and there was some demonstrations of how to properly use dabs and different types of marijuana strands were being shared among the group. It was really a wonderful pleasant evening and everyone went home happy and safe.”

 

The organizers even checked with local law enforcement to make sure activities were within the newly legalized marijuana laws.
