Gov. Walker Schedules Joint Session for Confirmations

Governor Bill Walker has issued an executive proclamation for a joint legislative session to confirm appointments on Friday.

 

Members of the House and Senate will convene at 10 am on April 17 to vote on Walkers appointments for Commissioners, Boards, and Commissions.

 

An legal inquiry into consequences of not voting on the governor’s appointments was requested by legislative leadership in February.

 

That memo was made public earlier this week and soon after House Speaker Mike Chenault canceled the joint session for confirmation which was originally scheduled for Friday.

 

That joint legislative session could see up to 89 Alaskans whose appointments need to be confirmed by the Legislature.

 

In a release, Governor Walker stated, “I have assembled a team of respectable, hardworking Alaskans—many of whom have quit their jobs and relocated their families so they could serve the state.These dedicated team members deserve the opportunity to have their appointments put to a joint legislative session for a vote.”
