Governor Bill Walker has said that plummeting gas prices are not discouraging him.
In an interview with KSRM, Gov. Walker joked that during his recent visit with President Barack Obama he asked for an all-Alaska gas line.
Walker: “Well we had a discussion about that as far as the permitting process and he described to me a project that had been done elsewhere in the U.S. I think it was in Florida, the seven year permitting process they were able to condense it to a one year process so I was very encouraged by that.”
He said he has kept an open dialogue with Kenai Peninsula legislators in regards to how they will work with the oil prices.
Walker: “What I’ve been encouraged by, certainly not surprised, but the reaching out by the house and senate majority on we’re going to work together on some of these issues because when oil is at $56 a barrel or wherever it is now, we tend to work together in those situations and I have no reason to think we won’t. We’ll be certainly very collaborative with what we do as a legislature.”
Walker said he and his family will be spending Christmas in Juneau.
