Following the cyber attack on Premera Blue Cross, Governor Bill Walker has asked state agencies to review their online security procedures.

Premera’s system breech included consumer data such as Social Security numbers and bank account information possibly being accessed.

The company said they discovered the attack in January but it originally happened in May 2014.

Premera’s data breech has the possibility of affecting nearly 700,000 Alaskans which comes just weeks after the announcement of a similar attack on Anthem Inc., another healthcare provider, which could affect up to 34,000 Alaskans.

Governor Walker stated, “I have instructed State of Alaska departments to review their cybersecurity procedures and those of the companies we do business with to see what we can do to protect Alaskans.”
