Governor Signs Bill to Create Marijuana Board

Governor Bill Walker signed the bill creating a Marijuana Control Board on Monday.

 

The board is tasked with regulating the legal marijuana industry in Alaska including the development of regulations covering aspects of marijuana cultivation, processing, and commercial sale.

 

The board will include representatives from the public health and safety sectors, industry, and rural Alaska, and will share the state’s already paid members of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.

 

The bill also calls for the director of the ABC Board, currently Cynthia Franklin, to serve as director of the Marijuana Control Board.

 

The governor also signed legislation extending the authorization of the ABC Board.

 

Walker said “I look forward to seeing the hard work of the ABC Board continue, and I know the Marijuana Control Board has an incredibly big task ahead.”
