Governor Bill Walker has signed an extension to the State of Alaska’s cooperation agreement with the Japan-based Resources Energy, Inc (REI) as the company plans a Point MacKenzie LNG facility.

The extension means the state will work with REI through December 14, 2019. The company plans to produce its first shipment of Cook Inlet natural gas to Japan in 2020.

The governor’s office wrote in a release, “Cook Inlet development opens the door for the market to access Alaska’s LNG supply while the AKLNG project is under way.”

According to a September presentation by REI, Front End Engineering and Design for the Point MacKenzie LNG facility will begin in 2016.
