Governor Bill Walker will be visiting the Kenai Peninsula and attending a special work session with local government officials next week to discuss Alaska’s fiscal crisis.
Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Mike Navarre…
Navarre: “The governor has asked to meet with the Borough Assembly in order to discuss the state’s overall fiscal situation and discuss options and what he’d like to do. He’s been engaging local governments all over the state in order to get their input and to let them know what he sees in order to try to come up with acceptable solutions to our economic and fiscal situation.”
Most discussion between Walker and the assembly will pertain to the fiscal crisis in Alaska. Mayor Navarre expects the meeting to be more of a question and answer session between his administration and Walker.
Navarre: “He’s going to lay out some of the things he’s thinking about and why and then take questions from the assembly and my administration and again, factor them into the upcoming legislative section and his budget. So I expect we’ll get some news about how he’s going to approach his budget when he puts it together and introduces it this year for the next fiscal year and what he sees as some of the solutions and actions that the state needs to take.”
Any and all members of the community interested in the work session are encouraged to attend. The work session will be conducted in Assembly Chambers, located at 144 N. Binkley Street, on Monday, September 12 at 1:30pm.
