Two Department of Transportation shops on the Kenai Peninsula could see cuts if the Governor’s proposed budget is passed by the legislature.
DOT spokeswoman Jill Reese says the North Kenai and Homer Highway shops have been designated to lose a total of three spots.
Reese: In the North Kenai there’s four positions and there would be one recommended to be cut. Homer Highway has eight current positions with two proposed to be cut.”
She says these cuts are only proposed so far, the governor’s budget still must undergo the legislative process.
The FY 2017 proposed budget shows 52 statewide DOT positions being eliminated, 21 of which are full time equipment operators and nine part-time.
The DOT has already experienced significant cuts in the FY 2016 budget, eliminating 95 positions statewide and reducing overtime during winter storms.
