Homer Electric Association held a community meeting in Moose Pass to discuss the Grant Lake Hydro Project on November 6.

Joe Gallagher with HEA said about 25 community members attended the meeting which went from 6 pm to 10 pm and included HEA presentations about the project.

Gallagher: “The Grant Lake project is something that Homer Electric is continuing to study right now to see if its feasible to move forward with that project. And so we have had many studies underway and we’ve completed them, we’ve looked at fishers, water quality, habitat, culture resources and visual impact as well as some historical artifacts and archaeological sites, we reviewed all of those with the community members.”

He also detailed the next step HEA is hoping to accomplish.

Gallagher: “At this point we will be summarizing the studies that have been done and the intention at this point is to take those and apply to the federal energy regulatory commission, or FERC, for draft license so we can move forward with the project, but that’s expected to happen, the draft license application, in the spring of 2015.”

Gallagher said there are still many things to be decided and accomplished however and whether or not the plant will come to fruition is undetermined.
