The group Borough Residents Against Annexation is increasing its education efforts as the municipal elections approach.

Brian Olson has been in a leader in the opposition to the City of Soldotna expanding city limits to potentially include parts of K-Beach. He spoke with us after the group’s Monday night meeting.

Olson: “We wanted to hear from some of the candidates and what their views were and then we will go back to our membership and we’ll say these individuals showed up and this is what they stated and this is where they may need help in their campaign and leave it up to the individuals in our group if they want to volunteer in some way.”

Some of the candidates who oppose annexation and attended the meeting were Soldotna city council candidate Fred Sturman, K-Beach Borough Assembly incumbent Kelly Wolf, and South Peninsula Borough Assembly candidate Dawson Slaughter.

Slaughter said although Soldotna’s annexation does not affect the South Peninsula District, he wants to be familiar with the issue in case it comes to the decision of the borough assembly.

Only a few members of Borough Residents Against Annexation showed for Monday’s meeting but Olson said he hopes to have at least one more meeting before October 6.
