KODIAK, Alaska (AP) — Alaska State Troopers say a military duty officer shot and killed a man who brandished a knife and ignored commands to stop advancing on the officer.
Troopers identified the man killed in the late Saturday shooting as Jayson Vinberg of Kodiak.
Troopers say Vinberg was seen trespassing on the unidentified military facility.
They said he was told by the guard to leave the facility but started walking toward the guard with a knife and refused to stop.
The guard then shot the man.
The Alaska Bureau of Investigation and Navy officials are jointly investigating the fatal shooting.
