Homer Electric Association, Inc. (HEA), your member-owned, not-for-profit electric cooperative, is pleased to announce several updates for December, including the HUG campaign, a surplus equipment auction, and the retirement of $3.37 million in capital credits.
Nominations are now open for HEA’s annual Home Utility Gift Program. Throughout December, HEA will select 10 families to receive a $100 HUG to be credited to their account. Members can nominate deserving families by completing the HEA HUG nomination form, available both online and at HEA offices in Homer and Kenai.
“HEA just wants to give kind of a platform for giving to those are who are in need around the holidays,” said company public relations strategist Mary Bowe. “It’s a stressful time for a lot of people, so it’s kinda nice to have the opportunity to not only nominate someone and make them kind of feel good, but then HEA plays a part and giving a gift, and with that, we’re giving $100 home utility gifts which are credits to their account.”
To access the form online, visit the HEA website (click My Cooperative, Community Outreach, HUG Program). Completed forms can be emailed to prteam@homerelectric.com or delivered to either HEA office. The deadline to submit final nominations is December 20.
On December 13, HEA will hold a surplus equipment auction. Members can register to bid in the Pacific Northwest Regional Event through the following link. Surplus vehicles and equipment from our Kenai and Homer locations will be auctioned online by Ritchie Brothers. https://www.rbauction.com/heavy-equipment-auctions/chehalis-wa-2024169
“There will be equipment from both Kenai and Homer locations, and it’ll be listed on there so people can see where they’re at,” said Bowe.
Also in December, HEA will retire $3.37 million in capital credits to its membership. Members with an active HEA account will receive a credit on their December utility bill, while former members will receive a check by mail to their address on file with HEA.
Capital credits are being distributed to members who were active in 1992 and 1993, with amounts based on electricity purchased during each of those years. The more electricity purchased, the greater the capital credits returned will be. Capital credits reflect each member’s ownership in the utility and are one of the benefits of being a member of an electric cooperative.
As a reminder, HEA must have a valid address on file for all active and former members to ensure the delivery of future capital credits.
