HEA Base Rate Set To Increase April 1

Homer Electric Association members will see a 3% increase to their base electricity rate starting April 1, 2025. The rate increase, approved on Mar. 20 by the Regulatory Commission of Alaska, raises the residential energy rate from 16.64 cents to 17.14 cents per kilowatt-hour.

This marks HEA’s first base rate increase since Jan. 2024. The cooperative says rising costs from inflation, supply chain issues, infrastructure investments, and increased outage responses—partly due to Spruce Bark Beetle infestations—are driving the change.

Meanwhile, students in HEA’s service area can no longer apply for HEA scholarships online through the cooperative’s website. Applications were due by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Mar. 30.
