Homer Electric Association has received numerous reports of suspicious phone calls from members today.
Gallagher: “Where someone was impersonating Homer Electric and demanding that they pay a bill or their electricity would be cut off immediately. This was a scam, it was not Homer Electric and we learned later on that this is happening at a higher pace in Anchorage as well.”
This is the second set of reports to Homer Electric in a month and Joe Gallagher with HEA said these kinds of phone scams are targeting utilities across the nation.
Scammers have become more tech savvy and many of the reports said the caller ID showed it originating from Homer Electric.
HEA encourages anyone who receives a suspicious phone call like this to hang up immediately and contact the company’s toll free number at 1-800-478-8551.
