Homer Electric Association has opened the nomination period for three seats on the cooperative’s Board of Directors.

Joe Gallagher with HEA says the energy cooperative’s Board is made up of nine members who occupy three seats for each of the three districts that make up the service area. He detailed the open seats.

Gallagher: In District one, that’s basically the Kenai-Nikiski area, the seat held by Boad Member Dan Chay is up for election; District two is basically the Soldotna and some of the Kasilof area, that seat held by Soldotna resident Ed Oberts will be on the ballot; the third district, District three, is basically Kasilof south to Homer and also includes across Kachemak Bay, the District three seat that is open this year is held by Homer resident Bill Fry.”

Those interested in applying must fill out a candidate packet from the HEA website and submit the application by 5:00 pm March 4.

Gallagher: “One of the requirements of the candidacy packet is that the candidate gather at least 15 signatures of current HEA members that live in the district that the candidate resides in. We recommend that you would get maybe twice that many in case there’s a problem with verifying the signatures.”
