Author: KSRM News Desk |

HEA is continuing work on installing a new transmission line between Nikiski and Soldotna, resulting in a planned outage for next Monday, March 10th in Soldotna.

We spoke to HEA’s Joe Gallagher for more.

Gallagher: “Homer Electric Association is planning a scheduled outage for the Soldotna/K-Beach road area, this is going to take place early Monday morning, March 10th. The outage will begin at approximately 3:00 am and it will be a short one only lasting about 10 minutes. The outage area is large, it will include the City of Soldotna basically from out HEA generation plant on the Sterling Highway, West all the way to Skyview High School and that would include all arterial roads including Funny River. On the Kenai Spur Highway from the Sterling Y Intersection to Knight Drive will be impacted and K-Beach Road from the Sterling Highway intersection in Soldotna, along K-Beach road all arterial roads to Helmsman Ave which is approximately mile 13.5.”

He went on to say these outages help to make sure there are less large scale outages in the future.

Gallagher: “This planned outage is necessary for HEA to complete work on the installation of the new transmission lines that we’ve been working on for quite a while now, the transmission line run from Nikiski to Soldotna. We do understand that it is a definite inconvenience and that is why we are planning the outage for 3:00 am hopefully that will lessen the impact on our members especially our business members so we’re going to do it at an hour that most of our members will be asleep and hopefully won’t notice the interruption of power.”
