A list of Homer Electric Association members’ unclaimed credits is available on the energy cooperative’s website.
Communications specialist Melissa Carlin says capital credits are members’ shares of the margins for a year when HEA’s revenues exceed their expenses.
Carlin: “The amount a member is credited is proportionate to the amount that they’ve purchased in electricity so they can go onto our website, there is a page under My Cooperative and it is under My Benefits. If they click on Unclaimed Capital Credits they can read a little bit more in detail about that and there’s a link to a listing.”
If an individual’s name is found on the list, that person may call either the Kenai ( 283-5831 ) or Homer ( 235-8551 ) HEA offices to verify their identity so Homer Electric can facilitate their refund.
HEA says this payout is a benefit of members being in an energy cooperative, which is defined as private, not-for-profit businesses governed by their consumers. The two federal requirements for co-ops are this sort of democratic governance and operation at cost.
