Homer Electric Association is requesting rate increases with the Regulatory Commission of Alaska.
The proposed rate increase would raise the residential service energy rate from $0.13780 to $0.14882 per kilowatt hour. If approved by the RCA those rate changes would be effective May 1, 2015.
Joe Gallagher with HEA said another increase will be seen sooner.
Gallagher: “The first increase we’re going to see if the Cost of Power Adjustment, it’s expected to go into effect April 1 and that’s going to increase by just over one cent per kilowatt hour. The COPA will go from 6.9 cents to 7.8 cents and that will go into effect on April 1, overall that adjustment will have about a $5 impact on the monthly bill for the average HEA member.”
The last energy rate increase by HEA was approved and implemented the summer of 2013.
Overall HEA predicts the combined proposed COPA and energy rate increase requests would be a $12.91 increase in a monthly residential bill for the average HEA member using 630 kilowatt hours.
