Power has been restored to Kenai Peninsula residents affected by an outage that began at around 1:30pm.
Joe Gallagher with Homer Electric Association…
Gallagher: “It was due to a frequency problem on the transmission system, this resulted in a loss of power to approximately 16,000 HEA meters from the Homer area all the way north to Nikiski. We were able to begin restoring power almost immediately and within an hour, by 2:30 Wednesday afternoon we had all HEA members back online and power was restored.”
Gallagher said at this time the frequency disruption cause is unknown.
Gallagher: “The frequency variation that created the outage, we are not clear on what caused that. Something happened to the system causing the system to become unstable and led to an outage.”
