HEA Sees 15% Increase Over Last Year

Homer Electric Association members recently received notice of the most recent rate increase request.

 

Joe Gallagher with HEA said the small rate increase that will likely total around $.32 annually for residential members.

Gallagher: “Over the past year the cost of natural gas, which is the fuel that HEA purchases in order to generate electricity, it has increased, the cost of natural gas has gone up and over the past year we have seen increases on a quarterly adjustment and over a year, August of this year to August of last year we’re looking at about a 15% increase from what it was back in August of 2013 to where we’re at right now.”

 

That request submitted by HEA to the Regulatory Commission of Alaska proposed to increase the Cost of Power Adjustment, or COPA, from 7.136 cents per kilowatt hour to 7.187 cents per kilowatt hour. COPA reflects the cost of the fuel used to generate electricity for HEA members.

 

Those proposed changes were effective July 1.
