Parts of the Western Kenai Peninsula experienced their first major snowfall of the year over this past weekend.
Accumulating snowfall was predicted for southcentral Alaska from Anchorage down to Homer Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning.
Multiple Homer Electric Association members reported a sudden loss of power over the weekend, as a result of the heavy snow. Bruce Shelley with HEA confirmed to KSRM that the power outages over the weekend across the Peninsula resulted from heavy wet snows causing snow loading and some trees falling on the power lines. Among the bigger power outages reported over the weekend was a circuit in Kasilof failed, affecting approximately 1,200 members.
Homer Electric Association’s Facebook page and Power Outage map are reporting that power was restored to all members at 7:30 p.m. last night.
