High School Football Opens Regular Season: Kenai At Home, SoHi At Lathorp

The opening weekend for the 2023 high school football season offer a rematch of last years state championship for the Stars a home game in Kenai and the Bulldogs starting their season in week two.

 

Soldotna Stars

Northern Lights Conference Soldotna travels to Lathrop for a Division II pairing against the Railbelt Conference Malemutes.  The Stars fell to North Pole 18-21 in the DII state championship in 2022.

The Soldotna Stars own eight Division II state championships, winning eight-straight from 2012-2019 (no championship in 2020 due to Covid).

 

Kenai Kardinals

The Mid-Alaska Conference Kardinals open at home against the Kodiak Bears.  Kenai finished the 2022 season with an overall record of 4-4 and 1-3 in conference play and did make it to the playoffs.

 

Nikiski Bulldogs

The Denali Conference Bulldogs open their campaign for the single state berth for the Denali Conference with week off.

Nikiski finished 2-0 in conference play in 2022 and qualified to the Division III state championships, where they fell to the Homer Mariners 20-54 in the semi-finals.
