The National Weather Service is forecasting unusually hot and dry weather on the Kenai Peninsula this weekend.
Tim Mowry with the Division of Forestry said this kind of weather increases fire dangers.
Mowry: “Every day that we don’t get precipitation things continue to dry out. We didn’t have much snow as everyone knows and we haven’t had much precipitation this spring so all the exposed grasses and brush is really dry and each day that goes by that we don’t get precipitation things get dryer and the fuels become more flammable.”
The forecast is calling for temperatures stretching from the mid 70s to mid 80s throughout all of southcentral Alaska with the hottest day likely occurring Saturday.
There are also possibilities of high temperature records being broken this weekend.
The Weather Service suggests that all peoples in the area take necessary precautions outdoors and be fire wise during this dry period.
