A high wind warning is in effect for the Western Kenai Peninsula beginning Sunday night, Jan. 12, after 9:00 p.m. and lasting through 6:00 a.m. Monday morning. The advisory includes the cities of Kenai, Soldotna, Homer, and Cooper Landing.
Strong Southwesterly winds are expected.
Another round of strong winds is expected to develop across the Western Kenai Peninsula later this evening following the gusty conditions this morning. Gusts as high as 55 mph will be possible, especially along the coast from Homer northward to Nikiski, with the strongest winds developing after 9:00 p.m.
The National Weather Service is urging people to secure loose objects that could be blown around or damaged by the wind and to prepare for the possibility of power outages.
