2:30 pm Update:

High, gusting winds have caused at least three of the five power outages that have affected Kenai Peninsula residents today.

Joe Gallagher with Homer Electric Association gave us an update as of 2:30 pm.

We will continue to get updates on the outages affecting the Kenai Peninsula as winds are expected through this evening.

Dan Nelson, Program Coordinator for the Kenai Peninsula Borough Office of Emergency Management, said these smaller outages are an opportunity to check emergency supplies…

Nelson: “Well we want to check and make sure that in addition to those supplies we always think about, like the wood, that we’re thinking about our food and water storage, and that we have everything, just in case we had something go on with our infrastructure, or something that might be able to cut us off. So we encourage everybody to have a seven day supply of food, water, medication in their homes. So, in addition to that, you want to make sure that you have your food storage taken care of.

You can find a list of suggested emergency kit items on the borough’s Office of Emergency Management website.
