The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning to cities of the western Kenai Peninsula including Kenai, Soldotna, Homer, and Cooper Landing.
Winds are increasing with the most dangerous gusts developing around midnight, some forecast to reach 75 miles per hour.
Average wind speeds are expected to be from 50 to 60 miles per hour but the gusts are expected to continue through Wednesday morning.
The National Weather Service recommends caution while traveling as the wind could blow trees into the roadway or onto power lines.
Gusts may also quickly move debris and loose objects in those areas, creating hazardous situations.
The high wind warning is scheduled to end at noon Wednesday, December 30, when winds are forecast to die down.
