Hiker Rescued Near Indian Creek Trailhead After SOS Activation

A solo hiker was rescued early Sunday morning near the Indian Creek Trailhead after triggering an SOS alert on his Garmin device.

 

Alaska State Troopers responded to the emergency just before 11:30 PM on April 19, after receiving the signal from the device. The hiker, a 52-year-old man who had a knee replacement last October, was reported overdue by a companion waiting at the trailhead.

 

Although the SOS was briefly canceled, the hiker soon reported he couldn’t feel his feet, prompting the deployment of the Alaska Mountain Rescue Group. Rescuers located him around 2:55 AM, roughly one mile from the parking area near Powerline Pass.

 

The team provided food and assistance before safely escorting the man back to the trailhead. There were no reports of serious injuries.
