Hit The Trails And Pool: Tri Nikiski Is Back!

Tri Nikiski is gearing up for its annual triathlon on Saturday, June 28 — a non-chip-timed event that blends community fun with fundraising for local youth organizations. The event also features a kids’ triathlon, giving young athletes a chance to join the excitement.

 

The adult triathlon/relay team begins with a 500-yard swim at the Nikiski Pool, followed by a 10-mile bike ride along the path to Holt-Lamplight Road, and finishes with a 5K run through the Nikiski Rec Trails. There are two options for the adult relay: a three-person relay or a two-person relay.

 

After the adult race, the kids’ triathlon kicks off with a 50-yard swim (1–2 laps), a 2-mile bike ride, and a run of less than one mile. Children ages 7 to 13 are eligible to participate. There is no team option for the kids’ triathlon.

 

“It’s for anyone and everyone who wants to try a triathlon,” said Lauren Pilatti, a Tri Nikiski organizer.

 

Participants can use locker rooms to change into dry clothing between events to stay comfortable throughout the race.

 

Last year’s event drew 50 adults and 25 kids. All registered participants will receive a T-shirt, and medals will be awarded to top finishers in each division, including youth categories.

 

Check-in begins at 7:20 a.m. for adults, with a race start at 8:20 a.m. The kids’ check-in begins at 11:00 a.m.

 

Entry fees are $50 for adults and $25 for kids.

 

Proceeds support local youth sports teams. Volunteers are still welcome.

 

Families are encouraged to enjoy the nearby play park and picnic area next to the pool after the race.
