Stars Shutout Kards 6-0 In Hockey Regular Season Finale’: Seeding Set For Conference Tournament

Senior Night for both the Soldotna Stars and the Kenai Kardinals ended better for the former than the latter.

The Stars shut out Kenai 6-0 on Saturday night recording SoHi’s fourth North Star Conference victory.

SoHi goalie Billy Yoder turned-away 17 shots for the shutout; Kenai’s Ryan Williams stopped 37 of 43 shots.

SoHi opened the scoring with a Cameron Knowlton power-play goal in the first period.  Knowlton added a second goal just :07 seconds into the second period for a 2-0 SoHi lead.  Jace Urban added a goal with 1:17 remaining in the second for a 3-0 Star lead.  The third period included SoHi goals by Calvin Hills (4:22), Ethan Brown (PP 13:40) and Levi Hensley (5 on 3 14:51).  SoHi, with a 4-6 NSC record, has secured the #4 seed for the North Star Conference tournament.  Kenai will be the #6 seed.

The North Star Conference tournament is scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, February 4-6 at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex, hosted by Kenai Central High School.

Thursday Hockey Result: Homer 7 – Kenai 2

The Kardinals faced-off against North Star Conference opponent Homer on Thursday night in Homer at the Kevin Bell Arena.  Homer, on the strength of a four-goal, third period downed the Kardinals 7-2.  Levi Mese scored both Kardinal goals, one in the first and one in the second period.  Kenai and Homer were tied at 1-1 after the first period and 2-2 late in the second period.

The Kardinals own one conference win on the season; Kenai with a 6-5 victory over Homer earlier in the season.
