Halloween begins the months of decorations for a variety of holidays and when decorating, fire hazards should be kept in mind.
Kenai Fire Marshal Tommy Carver detailed the biggest safety hazard.
Carver: “Well we always try to discourage people from using live fire candles in jack o’lanterns and that sort of thing. We prefer that they use the electronic candles now a days. Same thing with anything live fire on porches when we got kids showing up trick or treating and things like that, we try and like to avoid that sort of thing.”
Dried flowers, hanging decorations, crepe paper and cornstalks are also highly flammable and should be kept away from heat sources.
