The Fourth of July holiday weekend will be construction free according to Department of Transportation’s Shannon McCarthy.
McCarthy: “DOT is pretty mindful of the heavy traffic on the Kenai in particular during the summer months and they will be mindful of those impacts. One that will completely shut down is the Birch Road signal at the Sterling Highway in Soldotna. They’re going to completely shut that project down, they may do some buttoning up things but you won’t see any impacts to the Sterling Highway at the project for the month of July.”
She said most of the projects which might impact travel to and from the Kenai Peninsula were scheduled to shut down for a long weekend as of late Thursday night or early Friday morning.
