The question “Shall a Charter Commission be Elected to Prepare a Proposed Charter?” will be put to Soldotna voters on May 10th. The Chamber of Commerce is hosting a lunch Tuesday to answer queries about the issue.

Chamber Director Tami Murray…

Murray: “We’ll have several of the candidates that are running for the commission there. So we’re just going to learn a little information about how the vote will happen and what we’re actually voting on. A lot of people are confused about what this special election is so we’re trying to clear the air there and get some people some information.”

The May 10th special election ballot will include nine candidates that residents will vote for to the be on the Home Rule Charter Commission, along with the question of whether to create it.

If the charter commission is created, the seven candidates with the most votes will have one year to create a Home Rule Charter for Soldotna that would be put before the voters for approval.

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce lunch will be held at noon on Tuesday, May 3, at the Soldotna Sports Regional Complex.

Murray says she believes most of the nine home rule charter candidates will be at the luncheon.
