Soldotna’s Home Rule Charter Commission has scheduled their first meeting for Monday, June 13.
Linda Hutchings led the citizen’s initiative to put the item back on the ballot and was elected to the Commission during the May 10 special election. She says this first meeting will be mostly organizational.
Hutchings: “We’re going to be setting up our schedule more than anything. It’s just a get together, we’re going to have our binders that have the charters for the cities that are under Home Rule right now for the state so then we’ll be able to review those and see what we need to change and what would be in our best interest.”
She says she believes all the meetings will be open to the public.
Hutchings: “It should be open to the public. I believe total transparency is what we want to have here and when we have a group like this, they have been elected, three or more, you have to have an open meeting, that’s just the way it is. And I sit on enough boards and commissions that we’re all used to open meetings, there’s nothing to hide.”
The first Commission meeting will start at 5:30 pm on Monday, June 13th, in the Soldotna City Hall Chambers.
