Homer Advances To Hockey Championship Game With 4-1 Win Over North Pole

The Homer Mariner hockey team will defend its 2020 Division II hockey state championship, as the Mariners down North Pole 4-1 to advance to the 2021 ASAA Division II Hockey State Championship game on Saturday at the Menard Arena in Wasilla.

 

Homer 4 – North Pole 1

The Mariners scored a pair of first period goals and made the goals hold-up, defeating North Pole 4-1 in Friday’s winner’s bracket semi-final contest.

Fiona Hatten scored at 9:43 of the first and Haylee Owen added a goal at 10:58 to stake Homer to a 2-0 first period lead.

In the second period, The Patriots drew to within a goal with a Wilbur goal.  Homer answered with a Matfey Reutov goal at 10:13 to put the Mariners up 3-1.

Homer added an empty-net goal by Casey Otis at 13:53 of the third period to lock-up the 4-1 win.

Keegan Strong in goal for Homer recorded 31 saves on 32 shots.

 

Homer advances to play the Palmer Moose (2019 state champions) in the championship game on Saturday at the Menard Arena.

Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
