Homer Brothers Plead Guilty to 2012 Assault

In a case that has been delayed since 2012, two Homer brothers were sentenced last week for the harassment of a 17-year-old boy.

 

Anthony and Joseph Resetarits plead guilty last December to charges of evidence tampering and hindering prosecution, but the remaining charges and sentencing was completed on Thursday.

 

22-year-old Anthony will serve 120 hours of community work service, 40 months of probation and 70 days of jail. He was also held responsible for contributing to the delinquency of his younger brother.

 

20-year-old Joseph Resetarits was sentenced to 80 hours of community service and five months of probation. His lawyer says he hopes to join the military.

 

Prosecutor Paul Miovas says people attending the party wrote on the victim with markers and the harassment escalated to shaving his eyebrows and head, pulling down his clothes and sexually assaulting him.

 

The mother of the victim said her son was traumatized by the incident and continues to deal with emotional repercussions. The Restarits brothers’ attorneys said they clients also faced open shame in the community and are looking for a second chance.

 

A then-16-year-old boy was also charged in the case, but since he was a juvenile at the time, the details will be kept confidential.
