Homer Flex High School Principal Chris Brown has been named Alaska Association of Secondary School Principals (AASSP) Region III Principal of the Year. Homer Flex High School is in the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District, where he has served for 14 years.
AASSP sponsors regional and statewide Principal of The Year recognition awards to honor the educational leaders who play such a pivotal role in student success. They may be nominated by anyone – students, staff, parents, district office staff, or principal peers – with awards finalized by AASSP members in their region. Regional Principals of The Year are eligible to be in the running for the statewide Alaska Principal of The Year.
KPBSD Superintendent Clayton Holland said Principal Brown stands out for many reasons, but the primary reason is his unwavering commitment to fostering a caring environment for all students. “What truly sets him apart is his exceptional ability to make kids feel welcome, regardless of their background or circumstances.”
Kyle Schneider, a Homer Community member, shared that Principal Brown meets students where they are while challenging them to better themselves. “He truly believes in each student and supporting their individual journeys.”
Superintendent Holland added, “Mr. Brown’s commitment to his students, staff, and the community has made a tremendous impact on countless lives, and we are thankful for all he has done and continues to do.
