The Homer Mariner softball team, seeded #2 into the Northern Lights Conference Softball Tournament, completed a three-game sweep and defeated the #1 seed Kodiak twice on Saturday for the NLC title.
Championship Game: Homer 14 – Kodiak 2
The Homer Mariners earn the NLC softball championship with a 14-2 victory over the Kodiak Bears on Saturday in the title game.
Homer opened up with an eight-run, first inning and the Mariners scored in every inning in the five-inning, run rule contest. Zoe Adkins, NLC Conference MVP, allowed only six hits and no earned runs.
The Mariners advanced to the championship game with a winner’s-bracket victory early Saturday over Kodiak 7-2. Adkins threw 4 2/3 hitless innings and allowed only five total hits.
Palmer 6 – SoHi 4
The Stars were eliminated in Saturday’s first game falling 6-4 to Palmer. Tied at 3-3 after four innings, Palmer scored a run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth. SoHi managed a single run in the sixth inning.
