The Homer Mariners opened with a 15-0 run in the first quarter against the Kenai boys on Senior Night at KCHS; Kenai rallied to narrowly fall 52-51 to the Mariners in Peninsula Conference basketball on Saturday.

Homer Boys 52 – Kenai 51

After a 15-0 Homer run to start the game, Kenai gradually battled-back to a final second basketball falling a point short in a 52-51 loss to the Mariners.

Homer owned a 33-21 lead at the half and Kenai closed to 43-37 in the third quarter. The Kardinals opened the fourth with a three-pointer by Wade James; a three-point basket by Jakob Kvasnikoff and the field goal by Bridger Beck to take a 45-43 lead. Homer responded and extended the lead for the Mariners to 52-49 into the final :30 seconds. Beck scored off an offensive rebound as the clock expired at 53-52 Homer. The Mariner boys improve to 3-2 in the Peninsula Conference; Kenai drops to 3-3 in conference play.

Kenai Girls 43 – Homer 34

The Kardinal girls recorded a fourth-straight Peninsula Conference basketball victory and improve to 4-2 in conference play with a 43-34 victory over Homer on Saturday at KCHS.

Kenai trailed early and worked for a 17-15 halftime lead. Kenai and Homer finished the third quarter tied at 25-25. Emma Beck powered Kenai with a 10-point, fourth quarter as the Karidnals pulled-away for a 43-34 conference win. Beck finished with 24 points; Kaylin Anderson lead the Mariners with 14 points.

The Kardinals return to Peninsula Conference play on Tuesday with the Nikiski Bulldogs coming to KCHS. Game times are scheduled for 6 & 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN 1140AM, 96.9FM and streamed at radiokenai.com.
