The ASAA Division I State Hockey Championships open three days of competition on Thursday, February 13th with bracketed play including seven Division I teams and the Homer Mariners, representing Division II hockey.

The Homer Mariners play the South Anchorage Wolverines in the 2:30 p.m. game at the Curtis Menard Sports Complex in Wasilla.  Homer enters the tournament as the #6 seed overall (South, #3).

The Homer Mariners claimed the Division II hockey state championship last Saturday with a 4-1 victory over the Soldotna Stars in the DII championship game in Fairbanks, and with the title claimed the final berth to the Division I state hockey championships.  By ASAA bylaws, the champion of the Division II tournament earns the one at-large berth to the Division I state hockey tournament along with the top five (5) teams from the Cook Inlet Conference and top two (2) teams from the Mid-Alaska Conference.  The eight teams are then seeded into the tournament bracket.
