According to USA Today, Homer is America’s fourth-best small-town spot for art lovers!
The city was nominated as a part of USA Today’s 2024 10 Best Reader’s Choice Awards.
Back in February, Homer was selected by an expert panel from the publication to be ranked by their readers. After a few short weeks of getting the message out, the final votes were cast on February 18th, 2024.
Brand Anderson, the Homer Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Director, says the opportunity to showcase the city is outstanding.
“We feel we have a really strong opportunity and a strong presence in that, and it’s a growing industry for us, so to get that kind of national recognition helps reinforce that.”
On March 1st, at their awards ceremony, USA Today wrote, “What each of these towns lacks in size, they make up for with museums, art galleries, performing arts, and busy event calendars.”
While Homer placed fourth on USA Today’s rankings, the city was also recognized on Trip Advisor’s trending United States dedications.
“TripAdvisor identified as number seven in the country for trending destinations around the country. So we’re very, very happy to see that, and that’s based on people’s reservation intentions and inquiries,” said Anderson.
Trip Advisor describes Homer as the ‘nature lover’s nirvana’ where common sights can include moose grazing, a black bear crossing the road, or porpoises playing in the surf.
They also say that no Homer trip would be complete without visiting the Spit, fishing for salmon or halibut, and claiming it as an ‘unforgettable experience.’
“It’s a pretty magical little community. You know, it’s growing through some growing pains right now, as we try to deal with all of it, [but it] is a pretty excitable community, that’s for sure,” says Anderson.
