During the October 20 Kenai Peninsula Borough School Board meeting, a couple parents of students who attend Voznesenka spoke about their need for a bus route.
The women presented their case which included signed petitions and spoke with Assistant Superintendent Dave Jones after the meeting.
Jones said he has had a meeting with some of the members of those three communities and detailed what prevented the bus routes before.
Jones: “The state pays for transportation, one of the controlling things is if you live within a mile and a half of the school than you’re expected to be able to make your own way to the school, if you live beyond a mile and a half than the district is expected to run a bus to get to and from school and so traditionally down in those villages what had happened was everybody was so close that they weren’t beyond a mile and a half and then also the standards of the road need to be maintained to certain levels.”
He said in November he will go to a Voznesenka site council meeting to investigate if road conditions have improved as well as if the communities have grown enough to require a bus route.
