The Homer Mariners scored on four, straight possessions in the first half and added single touchdowns in both the third and fourth quarters for a 44-6 victory over the Kenai Kardinals in high school football action on Saturday at Homer High School.
Homer 44 – Kenai 6
After both teams punted on their first possessions in Saturday’s match-up between Division III Homer and Division II Kenai, the Homer Mariners scored four rushing touchdowns on four possessions only stopped by the clock at the end of the first half.
Mariner quarterback Carter Tennison ran for touchdowns of 6 yards, 56 yards, 11 yards and 12 yards in the first half and added a 12-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Tennison, in the fourth quarter, closed the scoring with a touchdown pass to Sly Gaona of 38 yards.
The Kardinals lone touchdown came in the first quarter with Tucker Vann running in a score from 14 yards out.
Homer’s defense also recovered a Kenai fumble and recorded two interceptions; one for Sly Gaona in the second quarter and one for Cade Hrenchir in the fourth quarter.
The Kenai Kardinals face Soldotna High School in a Division II pairing on Saturday, September 26th at Soldotna High School. Homer has a bye week before closing the regular season against the Stars in Homer on October 3rd.
