The 20th annual Homesteaders Reunion lunch was held at the Kenai Senior Center this afternoon.
Kenai Mayor Pat Porter said the event brought out about 200-300 people.
Porter: “It brings together all of the homesteaders and people with homestead roots here but also anyone who’s a senior citizen who lives in this area, There are people here from Kasilof and sterling and Soldotna and Nikiski.”
Kenai City Council candidate Henry Knackstedt was also at the luncheon and said his family has many roots throughout the area.
Knackstedt: “You know I recognize most of the older folks here, the homesteaders but what’s really fun is meeting with all the other kids that are a decade older, younger, whatever. We’ve got all these common roots and we haven’t seen each other for many years it’s a good thing we have name tags cause we all changed a bit.”
