The House fisheries committee forwarded their version of Governor Bill Walker’s proposed fisheries tax bill, diverting half of the potential revenue the tax would generate into a seafood marketing fund.
The bill would raise taxes by one percent to sections of the commercial fishing industry, which would generate approximately $18 million in revenue. This is one of six proposed taxes on the industry put forward by the governor.
The language included in the rewrite gives the legislature the ability to appropriate funds generated by the tax to the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute.
