The House Finance Committee has begun plowing through hundreds of amendments proposed to the House version of Alaska’s operating budget.
Committee co-chair Paul Seaton says an unusually large number of more than 300 amendments have been offered. But he notes there is a new amendment process this year and that some of those would have been combined under the old system.
Rep. Scott Kawasaki told reporters he doesn’t want to accuse minority Republicans of trying to disrupt the process but said going through such a big stack of amendments will cause problems in trying to stay on schedule.
Not all of the amendments are from minority Republicans. But the minority has expressed frustration with the budget process so far and taken issue with what they see as too few cuts.
