The Governor is again ‘disappointed’ with lawmakers after the House Finance Committee today announced they’re not comfortable with plans to expand Medicaid.
He wrote, “I will continue to work with the legislature to advance Medicaid expansion and reform, which is what an overwhelming majority of Alaskans want.”
The Committee has been meeting in Anchorage to iron out Alaska’s operating budget issues. Co-Chair Steve Thompson today laid out concerns with Medicaid and the Xerox payment system. The system is the subject of current litigation over delayed and incorrect payments.
Thompson said that although the governor asked for Medicaid expansion, he didn’t specify a timeframe for the changes. He says lawmakers will hire consultants to advise the State on Medicaid as they continue the discussion.
The statements were made during a brief hearing today. Thompson adjourned without providing time for other comments from the committee.
