The Houston Hawks, the #2 seed from the Mat-Su School District in Division III football, knocked-out the Nikiski Bulldogs 36-6 in the first-round playoff game at Nikiski on Saturday; eliminating the Bulldogs and advancing the Hawks into a semi-final pairing against the Aurora Conference #1 seed Monroe Catholic High School.

The Hawks defense recovered four Nikiski fumbles and recorded one interception: the offense took advantage by scoring off of four of the five turnovers. Houston scored following a Bulldog fumble just 1:41 into the game and scored following an interception with only :48 remaining in the first half for a 15-0 lead at the half. Houston added three, third quarter touchdowns to extend to a 36-0 lead after three quarters. The Bulldog’s Koleman McCoughey broke 72 yards for Nikiski’s lone touchdown with 4:07 remaining in the game.

Division III Playoffs
Houston will face Monroe on Saturday, October 17th in one of two semi-final games scheduled for Division III.
Redington defeated Valdez in Valdez 46-19 to advance to a semi-final playoff game against the Homer Mariners, scheduled for Monday, October 19th. Homer is the Peninsula #1 seed and is currently under a 14-day quarantine for a positive covid test within its coaching staff.
ASAA will determine the sites for the semi-final contests.
