Ice Jam causes Flooding on Old Sterling Highway in Anchor Point

Recent warm temperatures have caused the Anchor River to flood the Old Sterling Highway bridge in Anchor Point. The flooding is not affecting the newer Sterling Highway through Anchor Point.

The National Weather Service issued a stream watch advisory Wednesday morning and have extended that warning through Friday.

Just after 11:00 am Wednesday, local law enforcement reported an ice jam was causing small stream flooding at the Old Sterling Bridge

KDLL in Homer reported that Gordy Lange, foreman for the Department of Transportation station in Homer estimated that a stretch of around 150 feet of the old highway is under about 18 inches of water.

He recommends drivers use the New Sterling Highway instead.

The National Weather Service says do not drive vehicles into the areas where water covers the roadway. The water depth is unpredictable and may increase to an amount that is too great to allow your car to cross safely.
