The 2015 Iditarod Sled Dog Race will move off of the Chena River for the restart scheduled for Fairbanks on Monday, March 9th.  The Iditarod race has seen another change to the start location due to warm weather and poor snow and ice conditions.  Restart time is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Monday.

The official start for the Iditarod will be moved off of the Chena River near the Pike’s Landing to a location on land and will follow the road system until returning to the Chena River, about a half-mile diversion from the river route.  Returning to the Chena, mushers will continue to the Tanana River, where they will follow the planned race trail toward the first checkpoint at the Parks Highway community of Nenana.

The 2015 race start will be only the second time that the restart for the Iditarod has been relocated away from its traditional location in Willow.

 

The ceremonial start for the Iditarod will still be held in downtown Anchorage on Saturday, March 7th; in-spite-of, poor conditions.  The ceremonial start is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning on 4th Avenue in downtown Anchorage; running along 11 miles of city streets and trails to the Campbell Airstrip Road tract.
