Yesterday afternoon around 3:00 pm the Alaska Peninsula’s Pavlof Volcano began a low-level eruption, upgrading it to an aviation code orange.

Minor ash emissions were visible from the Federal Aviation Association operated web camera in Cold Bay however scientists have said as of this morning it has not impacted any aviation paths.

Since the initial reports of activity, seismic activity has continued to increase gradually and satellite data continues to indicate a thermal signal at the summit.

Pavlof’s past historical eruptions have been characterized by moderate amounts of ash emissions and plumes have risen as high as 20,000 feet above sea level and occasionally higher.
